Letter from the Editor



‘Born here,’ a label not to be taken lightly in this day and age, do we really ‘Over’-stand it? Millions of people from over seas, down-island, and “states-siders”, seem to know that there is something about these islands. Whether it is the beautiful scenery and landscape or the rich culture and heritage of the people, the tide of citizens and corporations from across the globe continues to ebb and flow throughout the years. Whilst tourism and foreign business is an integral part of the Virgin Islands socio-economic structure, there is a wide spectrum of Virgin Islanders here and abroad, both British and U.S., who have influenced life as we know it at home and those that are doing “Big Tings” abroad. The problem is so many have gone un-noticed, so many have gone without adequate commendation; that is about to change.



CORE believes it is way past the time that the Virgin Islands should have turned the spotlight inward. Many persons of significant influence have blessed us with their presence and were then taken away; giving us at CORE a certain sense of now trying to catch up and make sure they are memorialized. On the other hand, never before in Virgin Islands history has there been such a volume of our brothers and sisters making advancements in every facet of daily life. The field is wide and varied, including entrepreneurs, athletes, models, entertainers, farmers, designers, and the list goes on making the job of CORE a little easier. We intend to keep the VI in the spotlight, and God’s Will, the blessings of His Grace will continue to flow through these beautiful islands.

We would like to thank everyone who has helped us getting off the ground; from the participation of the labels and artists, to the beautiful models and agencies. Many thanks go out to the musicians, the advertisers, and the Carnival Committee. A special thanks goes to the Awesome Jam Band, Nicole Friday, and the Friday Family for their foresight and belief in our vision. Thanks to Kanaya and the Bordeaux Farmers Association for letting us take such beautiful photographs. Of course, thanks to Navidad and One Blood for setting the pace. Lastly, this publication would not be possible without the culture and people of these British and United States Virgin Islands, every nook and cranny, every Gade and Straede, every hill and valley, every project and neighborhood, every block and avenue, we give thanks to you.



These trade winds and emerald seas create a perfect backdrop for the growth of so many iconic personalities and for the dynamics of our local happenings. We will be there to chronicle these instances for the world to see, for we know that there is such a diverse array of beauty in our culture and individualism, with one common thread that binds us all…’Born Here.’
